Chatham Students Take the Stage at Rea Coffee House Reading

To celebrate the creative mind, the Spring 2017 Rea Coffee House Reading Series was held on March 16, 2017 in Chatham University’s Julia and James Rea House basement. The reading series is held once every semester. Many of Chatham University’s undergraduate writers submit pieces to read. This spring the feature readers chosen anonymously by the Creative Writing Club were Lee Marsh, Carsyn Smith, Iris Marzolf, Claire Wozniak and Anniston Bieri. This was followed by an open mic where anyone could come up and share their own pieces.

Vagina Monologues Enjoy Another Year of Success

Chatham University’s annual performance of “The Vagina Monologues,” have come and gone successfully again with the help of the its directors, Indigo Baloch, Bethany Bookout and Megan Cooper, and its cast. “The Vagina Monologues,” are a series of monologues made up of interviews with women. The aim of the play is to provide insight on issues surrounding the vagina and the female gender. These monologues were held on February 17, in Eddy Theater at 7 p.m. with a large turn out.

Movie Review: Moonlight (2016)

“Moonlight,” is a film that all moviegoers should see. Released in 2016 and written and directed by Barry Jenkins “Moonlight,” is an excellent exploration of race, sexuality and isolation that gives face to American harsh realities. The coming-of-age drama follows Chiron, the main character, through three stages of his life as he tries to figure out his identity while fighting the expectations of Miami and the world at large. Chiron is played by Alex R. Hibbert as a child, Ashton Sanders as a teenager and Trevante Rhodes as an adult.

1 Year Passed, Twitch Still Refuses to Tell Why It Banned Yandere Simulator

Twitch, founded in June 2011,  is one the world’s leading community for gamers. About one million people log on to talk about video games and watch the two million streamers play video games every day. Some streamers actually make a living off streaming on Twitch and people watch either for entertainment or influences on whether to buy the game.  Twitch banned the stealth game “Yandere Simulator,” from being streamed on its website last year, and YandereDev, the game developer of “Yandere Simulator,” has yet to hear back as to why that is.

Going Solar Presentation in Chatham’s Sanger Hall

Chatham University’s Director of Sustainability, Mary Whitney, hosted Solarize Allegheny and Sound Home Plan to give a presentation in Chatham’s Sanger Lecture Hall on Thursday, January 26, on the benefits of solar power and energy efficiency. Solarize Allegheny is a nonprofit project whose goal is to make the process of going solar straightforward and affordable. Sound Home Plan is also a nonprofit program of Conservation Consultants that follows homeowners through the path of making cost-effective home improvements to make it more energy efficient.

“Talk Saves Lives” Event Informs Students on Suicide Prevention

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in ages 15 to 34 in the state of Pennsylvania, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Addressing this problem, on Thursday October 20 Chatham University hosted a Talk Saves Lives suicide prevention presentation in Eddy Theater. Chatham professors Dr. Sharon D. Novalis and Dr. Joyce Salls were the presenters that evening.
