Below is a list of conference ideas, some are in person and some are online. There are a lot of possibilities to give you a lot of opportunities.

February 2012

Educause Learning Initiative (aka: Educause ELI) – This is the teaching/learning centered Educause conference. If you can’t attend in person, you can “attend” online, but it is a highly recommended conference.)

April 2012

2012 Sloan-C Blended Learning Conference and Workshop Institutions of higher education around the world are using blended learning, a mixture of different learning environments, face-to-face and online. It combines traditional face-to-face classroom methods to enhance student learning, facilitate student access, meet instructional and institutional goals, and find solutions for diminishing resources.

WIPTE – Workshop on the Impact of Pen-Based Technology on Education. This conference focuses exclusively on pen-based Tablet PC technologies like the HP Tablet PCs.

May 2012

Lilly International Conference on College & University Teaching – One of my colleagues suggested this. This isn’t a technology conference per say, however they do have a many sessions on Technology-Enhanced Learning.

Summer 2012

New Media Consortium (NMC) Summer Conference – is a one-of-a-kind event, attracting an audience of hundreds of highly skilled professionals interested in the integration of emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and creative inquiry. Program is not available yet, however here is a link to the 2011 conference for you can get a sense of the sessions.

Cyber Peer-Led Team Learning National Workshop - cPLTL is the “cyber” evolution of Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) to an online format. PLTL is a model of teaching that preserves the lecture and replaces recitation in science courses with a weekly two-hour session. During these interactive sessions (workshops), six to eight students work as a team to solve carefully constructed problems under the guidance of a peer leader.

Informing Science and IT Education (InSITE) 2012 - A conference in four parts, you can attend all or just part of the conference:

  • InSITE:  Connect consists of study in various locations on the transmission of information across time and across space.  Connect focuses on the interrelationship between context (historical forces and culture) and information and knowledge transfer. 
  • InSITE: Inform solicits papers in any area that explores issues in effectively and efficiently informing clients through IT (information technology).
  • InSITE:  TeachIT focuses on research topics related to teaching  IT, including curricular issues, capstone courses, pedagogy, and emerging topics in IT.
  • InSITE:  TeLE focuses on research topics related to using IT to teach.  For example, these topics include e-Learning, m-Learning, making classroom teaching more effective, and distance learning.

Online Conference and Workshops

ELI 2012 Online Spring Focus Session (If you didn’t want to travel, this might be an option. It is an online event, but you would probably have to “attend” most of the two days.)

Sloan-C Online Workshop (Sloan-C is the organization for online learning. Each workshop is developed by practitioners for practitioners; these workshops meet in real-time and asynchronously. These workshops are 2 to 4 weeks long.)
