End of the Year Environmental Events

As we draw closer to the holiday season and the days get colder, thoughts of nature seem to fade away with the fall leaves. Even though the green grass is covered in a white blanket of snow, do not forget that taking care of our planet is a year round job. Look into these environmentally focused events that can motivate sustainable thoughts through the winter months!

Butchering 101: The Whole Lamb
Held at Chatham University’s beautiful Eden Hall campus, enjoy an afternoon learning how to butcher, process and cook lamb. From 12:00pm to 4:00pm, local butcher Maya Lantgios will show the process from beginning to end and each participant will leave with 5-8 pounds of fresh meat and a cook book detailing how to cook each cut. Please register before the event here and a fee of $125 will be required, Chatham students and alumni will receive a 10% discount.

Local Food Match Up
On December 3rd from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Threadbare Ciderhouse, Sustainable Pittsburgh will be hosting a local food match up for buyers and sellers. With a goal to incorporate local food sources into restaurants, this event is meant to create partnerships for local businesses. Book Drive
On Wednesday, November 28th from 11:00am until 1:00pm in Anderson Dining Hall there will be a book drive. The Honors Living Learning Community will be hosting the book drive to collect books to donate to a local Pittsburgh organization. Please bring books you have enjoyed reading to be passed on to new hands!

Bridge to 2030: Energy
Join Green Building Alliance on December 5th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm to learn more about sustainable energy. As part of their Bridge to 2030 series, they will be hosting the event on the 4th Floor Multi Purpose Rooms at Burns White Center. There will be presentations from a local leaders panel followed by a Q&A and a networking reception. There is a $35 fee for attending and you can register here.

Pittsburgh Park Conservancy Events
Get out and enjoy nature with the Pittsburgh Park Conservancy’s events held throughout the year! With hikes, yoga and Tai Chi hosted in different locations, there are plenty of events being offered for free for everyone.

Every third Sunday of the month, join in on free yoga at the Frick Environmental Center. Yoga will be held on November 18th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. All ages are welcome and you can register here!

Every third Friday of the month, Fitness Hikes are held at the Frick Environmental Center. These hikes are specifically designed for those older than 50 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Please register here before attending.

The Full Moon Hike will be held on November 24th starting at 7:30pm! The event is expected to last an hour. Those who attend will be led through the trails by a naturalist using the moonlight, please leave your flashlights at home. Please register here before you join them on the trail!
