Submit an Abstract

Students are invited to submit their research to the 47th annual Western Pennsylvania Undergraduate Psychology Conference.  The Conference will take place at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 8am to 2pm.   

The Conference is a wonderful opportunity for undergraduate Psychology students to present their research (in oral or poster format) in a positive, supportive environment.  This important professional development opportunity allows students to practice their presentation skills and to discuss their ideas with other faculty and students.  Students from all class years and skill levels are encouraged to participate.  We will accept submissions for both oral and poster sessions.  

 

Oral Presentations 

Each oral presentation will be 15 minutes in total, including a 10-minute presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A.  Participants will be able to use PowerPoint and will have access to the Internet.  Participants should bring their PowerPoint presentations loaded onto USB drives, and should plan to come 15 minutes in advance of their presentation session to load the PowerPoint onto the computer.   

 

Poster Presentations 

Poster presentations should be displayed on standard, 36″ X 48″ tri-fold, poster presentation boards.  This will allow the posters to stand on tables for the poster session.  These boards should available for purchase at most campus bookstores and office supply stores, such as Staples or Office Depot.  If you plan to attach a rolled presentation to the board at the conference, please be sure to bring along the materials you need to attach it (ex.  binder clips, tape, tacks).  Poster presenters should plan to come 15 minutes in advance of their poster session to set up their posters.   

 

Submission Requirements 

Students can submit their abstracts online through this web site. Each presentation should be submitted only once by the first author. Authors should prepare an APA style abstract that is no more than 2000 characters (approximately 250 words) in a Microsoft Word document, proof and spell check, and then copy it into the conference form.  

Abstracts are due by midnight on Sunday, March 17, 2019.  

We will reply to each submission with a confirmation of acceptance during the week of April 1.  

 

Please Register  

Students are encouraged to register and pay for the conference at the time of submission.  If there are multiple authors, each author should register and pay individually, but, again, only one person needs to submit the abstract.   

We ask that faculty and attendees not presenting also register online by Wednesday, March 27.  This will allow us to get an accurate count of the number of people attending so that we can arrange for adequate food, parking, and seating.  The conference fee will be $15 and will include continental breakfast, a boxed lunch, and conference program.  Although registering online is strongly preferred, walk-in registration will also be accepted the morning of the conference.  Walk-ins must pay by cash.
