More people need to come to Homewood to see what it is like. Too often, Pitt students are sheltered by the comfort of Oakland to venture out and witness what the city truly looks like. I think if more people witnessed Homewood, more people would demand action, and more action would ensue. I learned SO much from the internship experience. My housing expertise was minimal before May, and now, my housing knowledge is significantly higher. I see myself curious as to learning about the housing situations in every Pittsburgh neighborhood. Operation Better Block is a fantastic organization that goes beyond the call of a normal CDC. Their efforts in the community do not go unnoticed. Operation Better Block, and other nonprofits in the area, play such a vital role now and will play an even greater role in the future.
