 As the days get colder and the hours of daylight decrease, find some fun Pittsburgh events to keep you happy and the environment healthy. Enjoy on and off campus events in your community before the snow flies in.

Chatham University Events

How lucky are we to have not one, but two campuses at Chatham University! Although we love the historic Shadyside Campus, Eden Hall hosts some great events, most of which have a message of sustainable living.

PBL Through the Lens of Sustainability: Fall Workshop

On Friday November 2nd from 8:30am to 3:30pm, the Eden Hall Lodge will be hosting the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Through the Lens of Sustainability Fall Workshop! The workshop will inspire community and classroom projects perfect for soon to be teachers or those looking to engage their community in sustainable practices. With Problem Based Learning ideas and discussion, this is not an event to miss. The class requires a $150 registration fee and at the end participants will receive Act 48 Certificates.

Eden Hall Fall Fun Fest

Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 4th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm so you do not miss out on Eden Hall’s Fall Fun Fest! Hang out with the campus chicken and goats, create a fun fall craft and enjoy music from the Shameless Hex. While you are on campus, enjoy a stroll through the bike paths or take a tour of the campus to see how sustainability is engrained in the roots of our one-of-a-kind Eden Hall campus.

Pittsburgh Events

Pittsburgh is home to business, sports, healthcare and higher educational institutions; but it also supports sustainable conferences and events throughout the city. Check out some off-campus places that are informational and a ton of fun!

Shop Small, Shop Sustainably Happy Hour

East End Brewing Company is hosting a happy hour on November 2nd from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at both locations to help you find creative gift ideas and holiday treats for your friends and family. The East End Brewery Tap Room is located at 102 9th Street and the East End Brew Pub is located at 147 Julius Street. Not only will they be showcasing sustainable ideas, but ones that support small businesses in the Pittsburgh area so you can shop locally and sustainably this holiday season!

The Farmers Market at Pitt

Head on down 5th Avenue to the last Farmer’s Market for the season at the University of Pittsburgh’s campus on November first. From 10:30am to 2:00pm stop by for fresh produce and baked goods at the William Pitt Union.

Bigbee Field Volunteer Day

Looking for a hands on approach to sustainability? On October 27th from 9:00am to 11:00am you can roll up your sleeves with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy at the Bigbee Field trail entrance. Volunteers will help remove invasive species along in Emerald View Park and plant native species along the trail.

Inspire Speakers Series: Walter Hood, Stacy Levy, and Alisha B. Wormsley

Green Building Alliance is hosting an Inspire Speaker series at the Elsie H. Hillman Auditorium at the Kaufmann Center. On November 8th at 5:30pm, Walter Hood, Stacy Levy, and Alisha B. Wormsley, will discuss their designs of urban spaces created to reflect the community and ecological area in which they are built.
