Follow in the Footsteps of Sustainable Travelers

As winter break approaches,  anticipation can build for fun trips you may have planned. As you map out your adventure, remember to keep sustainability intertwined with your activities.

Shop Locally
Pay attention to where your money goes on your trip. Eat at local restaurants and buy your souvenirs from local vendors to help stimulate their economy. Also when shopping, make sure to avoid products that include animal parts. Buying products that are being made by hunting animals encourages them to be hunted. Over hunting of these animals could lead to a disruption of the local ecosystem.

Waste Not, Want Not
When you are abroad, it is harder to pinpoint your food sources while on the go, but you can look for eco-friendly packaging. Try to find water in recyclable glass bottles or if you are able, carry your own reusable bottle with you to cut down on plastics. If you are traveling, bring along a cloth bag or two. They will easily fit in luggage and then you will not need to use plastic bags for your souvenirs!

Get From Point A to B Pollution Free
Even if you had to fly instead of take the train in, once you get to your destination choose your transportation widely! Walk around the city or look into using their public transportation over taking a taxi. Talk to your hotel and see if they have bikes or know of somewhere you could rent from during your stay.

Have a safe time traveling this break and remember to take care of where you go!
