Creative Writing Club is back with the new semester and enjoying the weather at the student activities fair! Along with the Communique and Minor Bird, the fair is a great place for writers. Club President Moe and Treasurer Maddie held down the table with bookmark making supplies and mini info zines.
Today we celebrated our graduating Creative Writers in the JKM Library’s illustrious Brown Room. Elana Ragan, Editor-in-chief of The Minor Bird, shared an excerpt of her capstone, dissecting the societal impact of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. Jill Behrmann read a memoir focusing on family legacy and accomplishments, sharing her experience as a fourth generation veteran.Fun Fact: The Brown Room is a room that is rarely opened up for students. The room contains hundreds of first edition award-winning books, many of which are signed. This collection is a rare opportunity and is the perfect place to celebrate our seniors.
Thank you to Jocelyn Codner and Dr. Carrie Tippen for hosting this event!
This past Sunday, Chatham University’s undergraduate literary journal held its annual launch party, celebrating the 90th edition of The Minor Bird. This year’s volume contains both undergraduate work and alumni work, including a sweet letter by Chatham 1968 alumni, Fern Canter, and dozens of student art pieces.
With the new edition comes new executive board members within The Minor Bird. The journal bids farewell to Editor-in-chief Elana Ragan, poetry editor Amir Allen, managing editor Claire Rhode, and social media manager Emily Reagan.
The Minor Bird celebrates another successful year and our talented writers.
Thanks again to everyone who came Thursday for the spring 2019 Rea Coffeehouse Reading! We had three very talented Featured Readers. Caprice Williams shared a vivid, powerful essay on body image, Corey Doeing shared his beautiful lyrical poetry, and Caleb Gill’s poetry was rich and familiar.
The Creative Writing Club was happy to see everyone and help our fellow students share their work. We’ll see you guys in Rea next fall!
